 Anonymous writes "

(New York, NY) – October 9, 2003 - Major League Gaming (MLG), the preeminent worldwide console gaming league for professional video game players, today announced that it has partnered with GameTime Nation (GTN) to launch a weekly video game tournament series in New York City – the New York City Gaming League (NYCGL). Beginning the first week of November 2003 at GTN’s flagship gaming lounge in downtown New York City (111 E12th Street), the NYCGL will lead the way for future similar setups across the nation between the two companies.

The NYCGL will consist of weekly events, hosted at GTN and operated according to official MLG rules and regulations (see www.mlgpro.com or www.gametimenation.com for more info). The first season of the NYCGL, which is to last 3 months, will include competitions in Madden 2004 (PlayStation® 2 platform) and Halo (Xbox™ platform). The competition is a progressive season, meaning competitors play repeatedly throughout the season, leading up to a playoff series and championship competition in January 2004. NYCGL competitors will meet weekly at GTN for a series of matches against New York City’s best gamers. Winners not only get bragging rights as the best of New York, but also get a chance to boost their MLG Official Ranking, win substantial cash prizes, NYCGL trophies, and other prizes.

"GameTime Nation is excited to partner with MLG on the first ever video gaming league of its kind,” said Wilson Kriegel, CEO, GameTime Nation. “We feel we have the perfect gaming lounge to provide gamers from all over the US with a unique and thrilling experience."

“MLG and GTN are revolutionizing the gaming industry by providing gamers the social forum that has been sorely lacking from gaming,” said Michael Sepso, CEO, MLG. “These tournaments offer gamers an opportunity to meet face to face, a place to communicate, and a place to compete and be recognized.”
