Considering the challenges of freedom fighters today and not to mention Tyrants bent on world domination it’s a wonder why mech suits hasn’t become an actual technology in today’s real world. Alas the best today’s soldier can hope for is a slow cumbersome tank. Thankfully in the video game world mech suits are by no means in short supply.

Frenetic by RedKarma is just one more example of mech suits fighting there way to independence. The one thing that does set this game apart from countless others is the fact that it is an amateur game.

I had a lot of fun playing this game. Frenetic is a well done game with a very simplistic game engine. Simple and to the point you are thrust into a mech suit and forced to battle against countless other mech opponents. As the enemy mercilessly comes at you with every thing they have, you must dodge and weave between an incoming volley of weapons fire that will insure your demise. If you do manage to destroy all the enemies in a level then you move on to the next. There are six levels included in Frenetic. All of them are packed with enemies.

The options are quite extensive as you can be one of three different mechs. You can also choose between six different weapons and three special weapons. The difference in the suits is speed , agility, and armor. I'm not sure if there really is much of a difference in weapons besides sizes and color but there is a big difference in the special weapons. One special weapon explodes into a circle that expands to hit a number of enemies, this of course is my personal favorite.

I found the control scheme very simple and easy to learn. Its easy to twist around in a 360 while finding your enemies on the radar screen provided for you in the bottom right corner. Boosters let you speed away from or towards danger as long as you don’t over heat them, for this will effectively render them as useless as the diet coke you ordered with that triple cheese burger you had for lunch.

Concept: 5
Like BNL said “its all been done before”. Truthfully there is nothing new here and there is not a story revealed through the game to give the player even that small bit of satisfaction. There are some rumors of a deluxe version however. Maybe there will be a more intricate story with that.

Fun: 7
Frenetic is simple and to the point. Its also fun especially when you get to the later stages in the game.

Overall: 7
Recommenced if your looking for something simple yet fun with a lot of shooting, or you just want something free.Added: February 23rd 2003
