One of the more interesting
games to come out last year was the title Juno Nemesis. The game is
really just the old Tempest concept brought up to the 21st century, but as far
as updating old ideas goes, Juno Nemesis was an animal. The game
featured wonderful graphics and extremely slick game play. Unfortunately
it had one flaw. The game required the player to move from the inside to
the outside of a single ring while blasting the enemies. This idea was
really the main thing that separated the game concept from Gyruss of old.
However, swapping from shooting enemies coming at you from the middle of the
screen, to enemies on the outside of the wring was far too difficult to do
easily and likely scared away most of the potential buyers of the game.
Now however that problem is being rectified as Juno Nemesis is nearly ready
for re-release under the name of Juno Nemesis Remix. The new game was
not content with being a simple rehash of the old fixing the occasional bug.
In Juno Nemesis Remix, everything has been changed. The graphics that
were superb before are amazingly well done in this game. It is clearly
one of the best graphical Independent Games to date. What is more, the
sound that was very fitting in the first version of the game is much improved
in this version as well. The biggest key, however, is the fact that the
game play has changed to correct the problems that plagued the original
version of the game. The outer circle has been completely removed from
the game, leaving you to just spin around and destroy the inner set of
enemies. The game also has included new cheats and bonus boards to make
things all the more interesting.
The only real complaint I have is that this game should really be called Juno
Nemesis 2. The game has changed so much that people who have played the
first one may wonder if it is the same game at all. I had played this
one a few times and I kept thinking "I know there was an outer ring last
time," but I had nearly convinced myself that I'd dreamed the whole thing up
since this game was so different. Many of the enemies do look familiar
in this game, however, even with that, I still believe this is a game that
should be considered on its own merits, and anyone who does I'm sure will be
rushing to buy it as soon as it is available.
